Evap repair

Hi

2001 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 standard.

Since purchasing my Jeep the CEL comes on frequently. It indicates a small leak in the EVAP system.

I have replaced the gas cap and purge valve to no avail.

I have also inspected and taped or repaired any hoses not appearing to seal correctly.

What do I do next?

code is P0456

I suspected the purge valve because its a 20 year old valve. I was able to swap it with the one on a cherokee and the problem did not transfer.
The vent and canister is under the hood, very easy access.
when filling the tank I can only barely insert the nozzle into the filler neck or it clicks off.
is that significant?

What got you thinking it was the purge valve?

do you have a code, po445?

I would be concentrating on the vent valve & Canister underneath the tank.

Do you have any difficulty filling up your tank?

if you’re unable to figure it out, I would have someone do a smoke test, that will

determine where it’s leaking.
