Hello Scotty!
I've got a 2010 Ford Fusion V6 that shakes and rattles at/or near 35-40 MPH, but only occasionally. It will shake until I come to a stop. I've changed the rear disc brake pads but not the front. However, when I stop the car the right driver's side wheel well smells of burning. I have one new tire (left rear) and three old tires. These old tires are 5-6 years old. Is this why the car is shaking?

Lift the car and inspect the brake on that side. You might have a stuck brake pad.
Thanks yaser! It seems like I'll have to change the front brake pads too. They did not show excessive wear. But does changing the pads prevent sticking?
If the pads are stuck, the caliper might need some work, it could be a simple fix, so make sure you check that as well.
