Can using spaces between O2 sensors all four make the car not trip an exhaust leak code?
Sure, you can install spacers to keep tips of O2 sensors out of direct exhaust stream that will result in false reading, but since about 2003, EPA implemented an intermittent test for that. The test comprises of implementation of short upset in car’s proper operation so the computer can detect the upset. Test proper operation of O2 sensors.
Of course, with spacers in place, such upset will not be detected, … and so presence of spacers is confirmed and code triggered as a result. Most wicked, eh?

Good to know, that makes a good car financially not feasible repair in some cases. Guess these cars should be sent to states or locations with no emission testing.
Yep. If the state has no annual inspections, spacers can be used, but you will just have to clear a code to extinguish Malfunction Indicator Lamp from time to time, …
