I have a 2023 Rav4 and it has frits (array of black dots) on the windshield near the rearview mirror mount.
Has anyone mounted an EZPass behind these black dots, and do they interfere with the EZPass signal?
EZPass is a radio transponder. It communicates in the radio spectrum, not by visible light. As far as I know frits are just enamel and don't block radio waves, but your roof might.
However, toll stations might take photos of your car as backup in case the RFID tag doesn't catch. Not sure if they use your license plate or the tag itself for that.
I'm wondering why you're asking us and not the EZPass pass people though. It's their system and I would think they know it best.
I asked the EZPass people first, and they had no answer, except for "if it does not work there then move it".
it's a fair point. There's probably no one-size-fits-all answer
