I was looking to buy a 1992 f 150 4x4 with 160000 miles it has lots of new parts and 4x4 works great they want 3000 dollars for it what do u think {black}:nerd:
It has the 5.0 v8 and automatic trans
My first thought is that it's 30 years old. Rubber parts will all be shot if they have not been replaced in recent years. Who knows how well it's been maintained over the decades. That's plenty of time for severe rust to take hold. I'd do the hammer test on the frame, have a good mechanic look it over, and try to get it for less money.
I feel like that is to much money, but the car market is crazy. If the vehicle checks out and you're willing to pay that amount go for it.
There are a lot of variables with a vehicle that old. What do you plan on using it for?
How much rust is on the frame and body?
Has it been it wrecked?
Has the engine or transmission been replaced?
Has it been repainted?
How many owners?
Above all else, I would have a mechanic perform a full inspection.
I had a 90 f150 the exact same as you and the biggest problem was oil pan gasket leak and I highly advise to look at a video of someone trying to do one of those and you might steer clear of that. Which it requires you to lift the engine off its mounts and jack it up as far as you can. Technically you have to remove the engine to service the oil pan. But because of that I sold mine cause I just saw that it was going to fall apart soon and I just wasn't in love with the truck.
