Are 2004-2014 Ford F-150s with 5.4L 3V engines good? I’m a bit confused because F-150s are the best trucks according to Scotty, but a lot of other YouTubers talk bad about 5.4L 3V engines.

@ashley
Stay away from the 5.4 3v
$800 tuneup with those spark plugs
2004 up to ?

They are better than the new 5.0L V8's. I sued Ford over my '18. Many, many issues.

Our 2015 and 2016 5.0 F-150 work trucks are doing fine (so far!). It appears like Ford made design changes from 2017 onwards.

Stay away from the 3V Triton 5.4l. All kinds of problems. Lookup "fordtechmakuloco" on YouTube.

In '18 they switched to plasma cylinder linings instead of the conventional piston sleeves. Oil consumption is a huge issue on the current models 18+.

Ford started using the 5.0 Coyote motor in their F150's in 2011.  I have a 2012 with 80K miles.  The only issue has been a leaking water pump, which are super easy to replace.

The 5.4's in 2V and 3V are good engines but are very sensitive to proper maintenance. Note the "proper" !

Home mechanics screw them up all the time, then they bring it in and we find cross-threaded and over-torqued spark plugs, broken coils, wrong electrical connections, hoses disconnected, broken sensors, and a lot more screw-up's from people that have no idea what a screwdriver is !

And did I mention the 105,000 mile engine that NEVER had an oil change !

That is NOT the fault of the engine !!
