2017 Ford F-150 Variable Time Phasers issue

Scotty,

I have a 2017 f-150 with 130,000 miles.  The phasers issue is eminent on my truck, I have to replace them.   I want to do this myself even if it takes two or three weeks, I just don't have a good mechanic and I don't know if I could trust the dealers in my area.

Doing this I know I will replace the coolant pump, timing chains, chain rails and tensioners, and anything that wears in that location since the front of the engine will be open in addition to the phasers.

The question is, when the phasers and solenoids are replaced with new ones, does that operation requires reprograming the PCM?

Clarification: Which engine?

The computer will relearn itself providing you reset the codes & completely drain the system of power. Be sure to use only a motorcraft timing set & a melling pump or it'll probably fail prematurely.

  • If you're in the Chicago area, BSG automotive seems to be the master of those timing jobs & honest as well.
