2013 Acura ILX 2.4L 6Speed 108k miles
IHey Scotty hope all is well with you.
Just got myself a vehicle mentioned above and I am wondering if it is okay to revv up the engine up to red line 7-8000 rpm once or twice a day. {black}
Got this for my daily commute 70miles per day and wondering the reliability of this vehicle with Honda K2 engine under the hood.
Is there anything I should pay attention to on this engine and vehicle?
take care Scotty! thanks
If you want to keep the car for a reliable transportation, do not do that. They called it redline for a reason.
Yes - pay attention to NOT revving it to redline - ever.
A candid grab of the internals of your K24, while you redline it -

There's really no point to redline the motor, you get your peak torque and horsepower at least 1,000 to 1,500 RPM less than the redline. Redlining just wastes fuel and causes premature wear. Look in your owner's manual or find the the max torque and horsepower ratings online for your particular engine, and when you want to drive it hard, keep the RPMs in that band. Your engine and wallet will thank you over the long term.
Every single moment of every single day you drive your car, you are doing damage to it. This damage is relatively insignificant day to day, because it is so microscopic, we don’t notice it.
But that microscopic damage adds up over time. And the more you redline, the more that microscopic damage adds up faster.
If you want to keep your car a long time, don’t redline ever. If you desire more fun, redline to your hearts content within the context of safety and the law.
It is inevitable that you are going to find the rev limiter from time to time (merging on the freeway in traffic, avoiding accidents, that sort of thing). I wouldn't do it on the regular basis, but now and then is OK. It's also OK (maybe even beneficial) to spend an extended time in the upper rev range on the highway (AKA, Italian Tune UP).
BUT - when you do, you absolutely must get the motor up to operating temps for several minutes first, and then don't shut it down right away afterwards (let it cool down slowly). Also a good reason to keep clean oil in it. Maxing out RPM's with old oil that is full of dirt and has lost lubricity is asking for trouble.
I would never redline a vehicle if you're using it for daily driving. You would have to end up rebuilding the engine long term.
It is ok to do the Italian tune up once in a while to clean out the carbon but sitting there and revving the engine to high rpm with no load on it is just juvenile and unproductive, IMO.
what if I did several times? I checked several forums and some of them said it is fine once in a while? is there any damage to the engine yet?

Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.
On A car with unknown history? Absolutely not!
It depends if that's what is what designed to do. All moving parts wear over time, depending on the way you treat them, and the way they are warmed up, and the amount of moderation.
Great inputs, thanks y'all!
I beat the piss out of my camaro & it still runs well, it depends how well the motor is made. With that being said, an engine that sees the redline frequently will more than likely fail before an engine that doesnt go there as much. I dont think never hitting the red line is the best thing either. Alittle shocked none mentioned the fact that its good to blow an engine out from time to time. 1-2 a week is too much tho, most once or twice a month if you want to put a time frame on it. Make sure its been running for more than 10-15 mins to ensure both the coolant AND oil are fully warmed up.
