F150 lug nuts

Hi Scotty,

Love your channel.  My Ford dealer said I need to replace the lug nuts in my 2012, 110,000 mi. F150.  He said that they expand over time.  I'm 68 and have never heard of that before.  What gives?  Bill

Never heard of such a thing, either. Do you have any trouble getting them off/on the vehicle? If not, I’d just leave them alone.

Edit : Found this after a quick google search. Looks like it only affects Ford vehicles.

Sounds like your Ford dealer came from the Land of Oz  and has a new way to scam his customers.  New lug nuts?  Seriously?

I am sure all dealers aren't all scam artists but the fact is that most of them are professionally dishonest.

My dad had a 1987 Ford Ranger with the stainless capped lug nuts and the front ones busted open along the 6 corners. That happened when the truck was about 10 years old. Couldn’t even get the correct size socket on them. I know ford uses a similar design on some wheels, still. But I think the stainless cap goes all the way in and wraps over the larger diameter of the nut, near the rim, which is probably a better design. But not sure if yours are even stainless capped. I actually never saw it happen to any lug nuts ever again, but maybe it’s not uncommon.
