Hi Scotty,
I have a 1993 F-150 4x4 Automatic with 232k. I took it to the shop to have them check out why my truck was stalling in reverse at times. I added some transmission fluid to it and it stopped it. They told me a couple days later after road testing it for 20 miles the transmission was starting to slip between 3rd a 4th gear. I had to take it back to get back to college. I took it on the highway later on and it seemed fine to me. What should I look out for or do going forward until I can have this looked at further? Could the transmission be starting to wear out or could it be too much fluid? Thanks, love your show!
If it got better after you added more fluid, then I don't think the problem is too much fluid.
It does sound like the transmission is wearing out, which would not be unusual for a truck with 232k.
It probably is starting to slip at that mileage. Just keep an eye on it and if it gets worse or becomes more consistent, you know you have an issue and need to take it to a mechanic.
