I have 2 questions today.
I have a 1963 Ford Galaxie 390 FE engine that has developed a rear intake manifold leak. Jasper Engines rebuilt engine for me back in 2006. Since that time and I use it for a car show only, thus I have about 5k miles on the engine now. I'm removing the intake and resealing.
First question: Would you suggest using the cork casket or just Sealer for the front and back of the intake manifold? I contacted Jasper and they recommend RTV, not cork.
Second question: Would you recommend changing our the water pump out, since i have it all torn apart now and if so any brand water pumps you suggest? I assuming you would say to replace to save now, but I see some water pumps that are rebuilt, some have 6 vanes and some have 12 vanes.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks as always.
If you did factory spec motor do a factory pump. Why did motor develope leak? Was it because Jasper used "not cork"?
Are you saying to do a rebuild on the water pump or new, they range from 6 vane to 12? Also do you recommend to replace, even though the current pump seems to work fine?
Jasper did not use a cork, but after 16 years the leak was small, but I was not happy with the small oil spot on the driveway. I read online that some say cork and some say only rtv. What is your suggestion?
Thanks again
I would use cork and then rtv to ends of cork and help hold cork in place during assembly. I would not replace the water pump since you seem to have more show car than go car and factory design was fine for originals.
Thank you for your support.
