Just bought a 2005 Honda CRV and the big plastic bumpers are all faded to grey. I know it's bc the oil has been cooked out of them and since this plastic/rubber is petroleum based, can I just wipe them down with mineral oil/WD40 to bring them back to a nice black color? Also since the sun is bad for them, should I put something on them for protection, Sunscreen? I've seen sites recommending olive oil, linseed oil and all kinds of expensive treatments and even repainting them.

Those options will be temporary and often look blotchy. If you want good results, go with @chucktobias recommendation.
