Family Car/ 2-3 Day commuter

My wife and I currently have 2 kids one is 3 and the other is just about to turn 1. We just found out that we are expecting another. So we will have 3 kids total. I work fully remote and my wife goes in to work twice a week with the rest of the week being WFH, with a commute that is about 30 miles total there and back. We only want to have one car payment since I don’t need the second vehicle due to not commuting at all for work. My wife really isn’t into mini vans but I’m open to hear out everyone’s options.

With that said what vehicle could we buy that’s reliable, will last and will fit a family of 5 with 3 kids in car seats and be a good vehicle to commute to work with for my wife twice a week.

We will most likely keep this car and pay it off.

Also, If anyone that has 3 kids and went with a vehicle with captains chairs instead of the bench what is your experience with that? It feels like it would be hard to tend to a child that may need something in the 3rd row.

Lastly, I’ve heard American cars just aren’t what they used to be and that Japanese is the go to. Does this still hold true?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Japanese manufacturers have make better cars for several decades now so yes, it's still true.

I had a Sienna, and it was dramatically superior to every SUV I've ever driven/ridden in. More room inside, but shorter. Better gas mileage, handling and ride. Electrically opening sliding doors? A godsend when herding kids into cars in parking lots. SUVs are as phony as wearing hiking boots to your office job. And reliable. And available with 4WD. And the hybrid gets 36mpg. Just my opinion, but test drive one and see.
