Can i cut off a small amount of the outer top portion of the fan blades to keep it from cutting into the bottom of the top radiator hose without losing too much cooling capacity.
Here's a thought - get the correct fan for your car. If the one you have is hitting the hose, it's the wrong fan.
It is a factory fan i put in an aluminum theromastat housing in place of the plastic one which are known to leak. Now the fan touches the hose
Then obviously, you have the wrong thermostat housing.
You really don't want to unbalance the fan. Have you done modifications, the factory set-up didn't have this issue... My first choice would be to get the hose away from the fan. Maybe try bringing your hose to someplace like NAPA and find one similar but shaped differently enough that it will not come close to the fan.
I found on Amazon a stainless steel flexible hose kit that looks like would do the job. Thank you for your response !
Here's another idea. Get the stock, plastic part. Take it to a foundry and have them make a mold of it and pour a whole bunch of strong, metal thermostat housings. Sell them online to everybody else who has this same problem and make a lot of money AND solve your problem. It's OK, I only want 10% of the gross for this idea.
Not if you want your fan to not self destruct, from severe vibrations..
Not to mention that it will quickly ruin the water pump bearings being off balanced.
Indeed.
