The fastest muscle car of the classic muscle car era (1967-1972) doing the 1/4 mile. This question is for my father. He wants to know the paper answer, I want to know the real life answer (I know depending on the driver is a variable in my answer).
Interesting coffee table question. Even more so than today, variances in conditions (baro much more important back then) and the same model car would give different results at different time by different drivers.
I say the Corvette with 427, any of those years.
396 light Novas, 428 Mustang, 440 charger/challenger..... depends on the day.
And omitting the factory "Special" build cars sold in limited editions.
Thanks for the memories and Merry Christmas : )
If I remember right in that era..the fastest were the Hemi Plymouth Road runner or the Dodge Super Bee with Hemi. I hate to admit it even as a die in the wool GM Fan !! Close but not forgotten are the Chevies with the L78 option which is a 396 with 375hp rating...don't kid yourself its the same engine spec as the 425hp Corvette Engine. Put that in a 67 Camaro and it will fly..especially if you had 4.11s. GM had "Derated" the engine as insurance companies were afraid of too much HP per weight. Technically speaking you could buy a 67-69 HiPo Camaro off the dealership floor if you had the money. It could do 10.90 in the quarter mile That company was called Baldwin Motion Performance if I remember right.
