First Oil Change for a Honda Hybrid Vehicle

Scotty, I really enjoy your Youtube channel, it has helped me out a lot.

I recently purchased a 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport.

What do you recommend for the 1st oil change interval?  I know the 2.0 engine may not be worked as hard as a full on gas engine.  I do ALL city driving with no highway driving.

I appreciate your take on this.

For normal ICEs Scotty recommends 5000 mile oil change intervals. While Honda recommends the first oil change at 7500 miles, I would do it at 5000. The internet is full of "opinions and experts" on this subject but I believe your driving habits and mileage should dictate your oil change frequency (not Honda's 'maintenance minder).

I'd change the oil every 5000 or 7500 miles. Either interval should be fine.

I thought I saw a Youtube Scotty where he may have mentioned 1000 miles for a first oil change? But I would think a Hybrid would be delayed as the ICE isn't revving up as much especially in the Honda as the ICE is used more to keep the generator charging the battery and runs at lower RPMs when compared to how a Toyota Hybrid runs its ICE at higher RPMs.

@mjbond007 Those remarks were about whether modern cars needed the earlier 'break in' oil changes that older cars needed and they don’t. While changing the oil at 1000 miles isn’t necessary, it’s not a bad idea. Modern cars’ engines are designed and engineered to be driven literally right off the lot. The dealer will recommend you bring it back for an oil change on a Toyota at 10K miles. Many dealers suggest oil change intervals of every 10K miles. It’s simply way too long of an interval for most situations. Scotty suggest 5K mile oil changes intervals. Since you do mostly city driving, you rely more on the electric motor than you do on the gas engine. This is why I suggested 5000 to 7500 miles in your case.
5000 is best overall, 7500 is OK if you're mainly a city driver. Also change the oil at least once a year.

Change it every 5k miles or sooner or do every 6 months whichever you prefer. Im going to guess all that city driving is gonna increase wear and tear on the engine versus highway driving

It’s not whichever you prefer, but whichever comes first. You can go up to a year if you don’t reach the 5k. Highway has 10% of the wear of city. Scotty says this like every other day. And @archerexpert777 I really wanna call you names rn but this is a family-friendly forum and people don’t know that we know each other 😂
