Which turbocharger better and is there big reliability difference between fixed and variable geometry turbocharger?
Planning to buy Tata Safari diesel SUV, old model has fixed geometry turbo, but drives worse, newer model drives better, little bit more expensive and has variable geometry turbo. I want newer model, but thinking will be more troubles with variable geometry turbo?

Fix geometry is considered more reliable for now because its proven technology. That doesn't mean there aren't competing opinions or that things wont change. For now I would stick to what is proven/has less complexity.
