Flooded engine ?

Topic starter

Hi, how do i know if my cars engine is flooded? What causes it, what are the symptoms? and what to do?

Holding the gas pedal down or pumping it while cranking the engine can flood it. Assuming it's a newer vehicle, not carbureted. You will smell gas to if it floods. If you're just starting it normally and won't start and smell gas I'd have to say it has a bad crank sensor. Have u checked for codes?

You are going to have to check for ignition spark...we can assume you have plenty of gas in the engine.  You need to post the year/make/model/engine ID size so that you can get a more precise comments.

Audi A3 year 2000 1.6 engine

And How can i check for that ignition spark?

Checking for the presence of spark just involves just removing the sparkplug wire off one of sparkplugs easiest to reach and they lay that wire near a metal part of the engine.  When cranking the engine if the ignition is working you will be able to see sparks coming from the sparkplug to the engine. I could make a snapping noise as well if it is working. If you see nothing..you have no ignition and thats the problem. What exactly the problem is not so easy as it could be a myriad of components that are suspect.

Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor while starting.

That will clear a flooded engine.

If that doesn't work, there is likely something else wrong.

I have Done everything that i possible can but it Will not start so i think it is something else..😓
