Fluctuating gas mileage

I have a 2004 Ford Ranger, 3.0 liter, V6, auto, 2WD. I get a chk engine light that goes on and off plus a cyl 6 misfire code. My gas mileage fluctuates between 10-18 mpg after different tank fill ups but same driving conditions. Have changed plugs and wires and run gumout regane with PEA, twice. Truck has 240K mi. Any suggestions?

@dawhikehart
Check the coil, plug, etc.
Move the coil to another cylinder...
So if you move the coil to the next cylinder and the code says another cylinder, the coil is bad.

Doesnt have individual coils. Has a single coil pack.

Different things cause misfire: from bad spark plug, coils,... to blown head gasket. I assume that your car is running reach, so change the air filter and clean the MAF sensor in you have not done yet.Since you already changed the spark plugs and wires, it won't hurt if you check the head gasket situation using the kit from Amazon which Scotty mentioned in his videos. Good luck.

@yaser that had crossed my mind. Have to add coolant occasionally. How do you check the coil pack?

Check the head gasket situation first. For the coil pack check, see the following link:
