What do y’all think of a first gen. Ford Escape(2001-2007)? I have one that is a 05 3.0 V6 that just hit 200k the other day. Even though the car was in poor condition when I got it, it’s been maintained and I am not sure how long the engine will last. What do y’all think about them?

Have you replaced the transmission oil yet?

This vehicle was before "start/stop technology", so keep it well maintained as long is you can.

I have not changed the transmission fluid. I also check on it to see if it’s okay and it’s still good for now. I heard that changing it out can make the tranny slip gears so I’m kinda iffy of changing it.

They were more reliable than the new ones. That being said, have you started considering what your next vehicle will be? With that mileage it may be time to start looking.

Well I am planning to fix it a bit more and it hasn’t done me wrong yet. I found a 2007 escape in excellent condition and only has 27k original miles. The dealer wants $11k for it.

That's not a bad deal really. Hey if you are happy with what you have, keep it til she dies. Nothing wrong with saving money.

I am either way. I got it for free so I am not really worried about anything honestly. If the engine dies then I can find one with lower miles.

Well you can't beat free! I'd drive the wheels off it and save up. A good spot to be in.
