My quesiton is my car witch i just bought it a month and a half ago has 44.000 miles on it. has been using oil at 3.300 miles i had to add a quart of 0-20 oil i went to dealer and they told me a quart of oil used in 1000 miles is within honda spec this is just crazy to me i have had many hondas and toyotas with no oil use at all please help the power train warranty ends at 50.000 miles. called honda with no reply.I did purchase the extended warranty from the dealer. Thank you.
I checked with the service manager at our Honda store, and to the best of his knowledge (and he knows a whole lot), there is no such thing as "within Honda Spec" for 2.4L I4 oil consumption. In fact, he stated that .5 liter of oil loss or greater can allow damage to engine components that are splash lubricated.
@oldrangernut I am so thankful for your comment and checking.I really did not think this was normal but with the brush off they gave me at the dealer i do not were to go next.
So, Honda is okay if their engines run out of oil before the first oil change?
Maybe they should post a large sign in the dealership lobby: "Honda engines may burn a quart of oil every 1,000 miles".
@carlos
Really Carlos this is just nuts i have never heard were using a quart of oil every 1000 miles is considered normal.I guess i should be happy I AM ONLY USING A QUART EVERY 3.300 MILES I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO I DID ORDER A NEW PCV VALVE SOME SAY THIS COULD DO IT BUT I DONT FEEL THAT LUCKY I GUESS WHEN I GET GAS I WILL SAY FILL UP THE OIL AND CHECK THE GAS
Did you leave it at the dealer, or did they just brush you off?
I would recommend leaving the car, and make sure they write-up and answer the complaint. Otherwise, there is no record of complaint going forward.
@carlos No I did not leave at the dealer i got the brush off pretty much . the write up is a good idea will do that i am waiting for a call back from honda to hear what they say like I said I am using a quart every 3.300 miles so far but this not going to get any better for sure definitely feel like I got a kick in the ass on this one.
Sounds good. Honda may recommend you have the dealer write it up. Good luck!
Oh, and take a video of the next oil change. Narrate the date of oil change, with the dipstick measurement, as well as the mileage (all on the same video). And do another video later showing the lower level/mileage etc.
Doesn't mean you will get anywhere with them. But it is evidence.
