Hi Scotty. I bought a 2013 Expedition Limited last year and it has 136,000 miles currently. The Expedition is too big for me and the seat is very uncomfortable for my neck/back. I’m looking at trying to trade it straight for a 2013 Taurus SHO with also 136,000 miles. I understand the internal water pump issue and timing chain stretch on eco-boost engines, but was wondering if you thought this would be a good or bad idea. I sunk a lot of money into the Expedition unfortunately (spark plugs, coolant flush, diff fluid, new battery etc). Is the Taurus something I could possibly take to 200,000 miles or should I just pass? Basically it’s the 5.4L Triton 3V VS the 3.5L Ecoboost first gen. Thank you!
I'd passd on that first end generation EcoBoost
It’s a fun car for sure. The question is do you value absolute reliability or do you wanna have fun and don’t mind sinking some extra bucks? Also the ecoboosts on the larger engines such as the v6s tend to be better than the economy 1-2 liter ecoboost engines. I own a 09 Taurus with essentially the same 3.5L v6 but without turbos. These engines have been known to be strong engines before they put turbos in and it’ll handle the extra power decently, but obviously no matter what with the extra pressure of the turbo comes increased wear when you compare to a NA. And any time you have a turbo you’ll have the added expense of having to replace the turbo when it inevitably goes out
