Ford Electric Truck, comment

Ford has over 70,000 preorders for their new F-150 electric truck. They claim the full 300 or 400 miles range, depending on which battery option you purchase, with the bed loaded with 2000 pounds. Scotty was questioning the range after being loaded.

Sure, maybe with a brand new truck with brand new battery, perfectly distributed weight, a tailwind, downhill, 23.5C temperature, perfectly smooth road, at 07:17AM partly cloudy, sea level elevation, earth tilted at 11.395 degrees, moon in waxing phase, venus at high zenith, mirrors removed, no ac or heat used, etc etc. Basically laboratory conditions. These "claims" are just marketing BS and will be as reliable as fuel economy ratings.

We shall see how they shake out in the real world.

You forgot to mention the condition of standing on one foot and driving South.

Shh. I thought only I knew that little secret for getting better fuel economy. Singing the Macarena helps too.

If I was in the market for an EV truck, I would take it over the Tesla Cybertruck or the Rivian truck or any other EV truck to come.  That being said, let’s see what the real world numbers are (they are usually less than advertised), and hopefully it’s not your only vehicle!  Also, better to lease it than to buy.  But, personally, I don’t like being guinea pigs for new vehicles and I don’t even get paid by the automaker to test for them.

I have no doubt this will turn out to be a boondoggle. Decades-old conventional trucks are still going down the road doing their jobs and are worth a good buck. These will be scrap as soon as the batteries wear out.
