I recently got a 2012 Ford Escape 156,000 miles. It runs and drives like new. Is it reliable?

Anecdotal. I still see a ton of old Escapes and Mazda Tributes on the road. They are basically the same car. Both first Gen and second Gen.
If you were talking about the third Gen, I would say no, because they have EcoBoost engines.
But the first and second Gen Escape are naturally aspirated.
Take care of it and do the maintenance. Just anecdotally, they seem like resilient little vehicles.
