Hello Scotty! I have a 2001 Ford Excursion 7.3 with a 4r100 transmission. Hesitates to go into gear from park to reverse, reverse to drive, and in between the other gears. I have read about a shift solenoid, and was wondering what you thought about it. Thanks.
Have you ever changed the transmission fluid or filter? My 2003 ford excursion would do similar things (especially in overdrive) and it was due to a dirty filter. When the filter is dirty the transmission has a harder time building pressures needed to shift.

No I haven’t, I’ll try that before spending 6-700 dollars on the shift solenoid. Thanks a lot!
I would recommend Castrol transmax dex/merc for the fluid. It is nearly impossible to get all 17 quarts out but i would still get 17 quarts just for some reason you do get all 17 quarts out.
