Ford Explorer is searching for the gear

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer XLT and when accelerating it seems to hunt for the gear. It will shift to the next gear but then almost immediately will shift back down.  Very rapidly.  As speed increases, it will continue to do this in the next gear up - 2d to3d and back to 2d, then 3d.  Then when it gets to 3d, it goes to 4th, back to 3d, 4th... so on.  At speed it seems to lay off the hunting for gear, but as soon as any load is applied, it bounces back and forth again...  any ideas?  Ford said it is the torque converter.

Thanks!

well there is a classic sign when they act like that you could go to a transmission shop and get a second opinion but odds are they're going to say the same thing. My transmission shops do have equipment to check those things when they road test and they can see if it had too much torque slip then converters bad
