Ford F150 2015-2020

I started looking for a truck and wanted to know if you would consider staying away from all turbo engines all together?  What if trailer pulling is infrequent?

If 3.5 V6 turbo is okay, would you recommend a particular year? I read they revised 2017 or 18

I have read the 2018 V8's have a new manufacturing process. If just the V8 would you consider the newer V8 or the pre 2018's.

Thank you

DO NOT BUY A 2018+ V8. Just Google the engine problems and wait while your computer loads.

'15 to '17 V8 would be my choice as I'm not a fan of the EcoBoost design, particularly when it is pulling around a full size truck.

Honestly if I was going the Ford route I’d stay away from the F150 completely and move up to the 6.2 or 7.3 in the 250s. I know you said towings not really a frequent thing but the 6.2 has been out awhile and I’ve read multiple accounts of people getting 200k + with them. The 7.3 GODZILLA motor has only been out a couple years but it is push rod design and seems pretty simple overall. The above comments are spot on with the F150 motor options. I’d also add that the 10speed transmissions Ford is using are not to great at all.

Going to the Heavy Duty would be my recommendation over all the 1500 options. Sad to say, but the Ford 1500 offerings just aren't very good right now.

100% agree @Mod_Man I would also add I wouldn’t even consider the baby power stroke either.

I wouldn't consider it either, especially because they are asking a King's ransom for the thing.

See thread here for 2018+ V8’s:

Regarding the 3.5L Ecoboost there is the issue (poor design decision) of water pump being driven by timing chain and when the pump goes it can take the engine out with it.  If you care about longevity, it’s best to avoid it.  See @ 6:03 in Scotty’s video below:
