Just wondering what your opinion is on a 2008 Ford freestyle

My brother in law owned a 2005. They can be OK family cars. They got about 210K out of theirs before they traded it in. Had a lot of evap and electrical issues at the end of its life, but just kept going until they traded it in. They aren't spectacular but the later ones don't have the tranny issues and you can usually score a deal on them. Just get one inspected by a mechanic and don't expect it to be a finesse machine with 13 years under its belt, especially if you live somewhere with inspections.
