i have 2002 ford ranger edge v6 3.0 and my oil and coolant reak of gas odor. I was thinking blown head gasket but i have no smoke coming of of my exhaust.
i have p0455 which is evap leak. idk if it has anything to do with it.
You're probably smelling the gas vapor leaking from the EVAP system around the engine bay. I'm sure if you were to smell the brake fluid too you would say it smells like gas too lol. I'd conduct a smoke test and see where the leak is coming from. Scotty has plenty of videos on how to do this. And just to be sure, take a sample of coolant out of the reservoir and smell it in a different area to make sure there isn't really gas diluted in it. Do the same for the oil because that's a more common place for fuel dilution.
i did check the brake fluid and theres no gas smell in that. Also i had a shop smoke my evap system and they said they didnt find anything. idk maybe they are just stupid.
Well clearly there is an EVAP leak somewhere if the ECU stored a code for it. Perhaps your gas cap is not sealing good? Take it to another mechanic for a second opinion. Do you randomly smell gas when you open your hood?
no there is no smell when i open hood
someone said it could be my piston ring?
A piston ring wouldn't cause an EVAP system leak. A bad piston ring will cause fuel dilution in the oil, low compression, or oil burning but it shouldn't have anything to do with an EVAP system leak or even fuel getting into the coolant. I would first start with a compression/leak-down test on all the cylinders first to see if the piston rings, valves, and head are in good shape...then go from there.
More than likely fumes from the gas tank are entering your engine causing it to run too rich. You should drain the oil and coolant as they are contaminated with fuel.
