Ford Ranger Surging

Topic starter

Hello everyone, been having some issues lately with my 1998 ford ranger, 2.5l 4 cyl, 5 speed, rwd. Recently bought it with 138k miles and did the following, timing belt+ water pump, coolant flush, egr tube, spark plugs and wires. I developed an issue 2 weeks ago with my car surging at higher rpms, probably around 3k? I dont have a tachometer. I changed plugs and wires yesterday to see if it would help, it did for about 20 minutes and then the issue came back. Sometimes on the highway it starts to cut out so badly that no matter what amount of throttle i give it, it wont react, having to pull over. Changed fuel filter as well.

Check fuel pressure. The fuel pump may be on its way out, particularly if it's the 26-year-old original.

@chucktobias Thanks, I checked fuel pressure with the autozone rental, came back as 65psi, so well within spec, but that was at idle. I was going to rent it again and check it under load.
