I have a friend that his 2003 ford f150 5.4l went 170,000 with the original plugs and never had a tune up before and went 170,000 with just routine maintenance before needing a tune up
Definitely not the norm. Ford quality these days is non-existent, but no car is designed to run with maintenance being neglected.
Scotty mentioned a Toyota he knew of that went 90k miles without an oil change and it still ran. Sometimes you get lucky. Most times you don't.
One happy customer. Noted.

On a vehicle from 18 years ago.
Add me to the list, two happy costumers at once will probably be Ford's high-score this decade 🤣
Ford really hasn't been making any good cars recently, I was looking at their model lineup and it's a total mess - either a crappy engine, or a crappy transmission, in most cases it's even both...
Times have changed. Fast forward 18 years, and I can’t recommend any new Ford product - at least for purchase and owning beyond the warranty period. If it’s a lease, OK. Only exception would be the Superduty trucks and of course the used Ford F-series from years past (2017 and older).
Old Fords are more reliable, the new ones, not so much. My 2017 Mustang, my girlfriend's 2017 Mustang and my mom's 2018 Mustang all have had the CEL come on due to "faulty" evap system parts, only for it to go off before a dealer gets to it. With mine, decent weather changes trip it for 3-4 days. A speaker in my girlfriend's car also went bad before it hit 36,000 miles. It sounds like another may be going out after 65k miles.
On the other hand, in my 1999 Ranger I was working on the TPS and accidentally broke a plastic stud that connects the EGR hoses to the electronic metering device. I ran it for over a week with a broken EGR system, the CEL never came on. It still had both original heater core hoses up to last weekend, one lasted 22 years, for 267k miles. A plastic joint failed, not the rubber. The other's still going.
I heard the 5.0 Mustangs up to 2017 where the last of the good ones until they changed something in the engine in 2018+ that screwed the quality
The 03 F-150 has the 2V triton. Good motor. Mine is in a 1 ton and has 220K miles on it and no issues. The thing that will kill it is the rust. Not sure what we're supposed to say.
