You are referring to the Gen. 3 Coyote 5.0 introduced for 2018 model year for the Mustang and F-150.  Compared to the 1st and 2nd Gen, this engine is not as reliable or durable.  Realize they switched to plasma arc cylinder lining with this generation which has been responsible for oil consumption and piston slap.  Between the oil consumption, ticking, more complexity and stress from a duel fuel injection system, cylinder deactivation (introduced for 2021 model year in the F-150), belt driven oil pump, this 3rd generation has taken a step backwards and I would avoid it especially if you plan to keep the vehicle out of warranty.

@daywalker they should’ve just carried over the 2nd gen and told the Government and EPA to shove it. I have no doubt once word gets out about this 3rd gen unless they accept accountability and fix the issues this is really going to hurt Ford combined with the 10 speed tranny problems.

Do NOT buy a 3rd Gen Coyote motor. I've owned three....2 Mustang GTs and an F150.

All had oil consumption problems, and my truck went through 3 motors and a trans in the first 6 months/6k miles. Had to sue Ford to get them to buy it back. Took me a year of litigation to get it done. They switched to plasma lined cylinder walls in 2018 and that was the end of their reliability.

Google has millions of stories on it if you desire further reading.

It's has been one of Ford's flagship motors for many years, and usually is pretty reliable. This year they made a change that has me concerned. They are using a belt driven oil pump, And it's a new technology "wet belt" that runs in oil.

1st and 2nd gen 5.0s are rock solid. The newest 3rd gen is garbage and has been completely ruined by oil dilution and cylinder deactivation. I have loved my 2nd gen 5.0 so far. Fairly simple and laid out. And it just goes and goes and goes. When I see a 3rd gen rolling around I have to cringe.
