Hi. I have a 2006 Infiniti g35 coupe with about 235,000 miles on it and I am showing codes P0462, P0153 and P0133. I also have a faulty gas gauge and I can’t seem to find the problem. I’ve replaced the fuel pump and fuel level sensors multiple times and nothing works. I was thinking it’s the gauge itself. Any ideas? And also what needs to be done to fix those codes I am showing? And finally I don’t remember for sure but I think someone jumped my car but at first put the wrong cables on the wrong terminals. What advice can you give me to fix my car. Thank you!
Other than those codes my car runs and drives great I do regular oil changes and maintenance on the car trying to get maximum life out of it.
Error Code P0462 is defined as Fuel level Sensor Circuit Low Input, which means the fuel level sensor is no longer taking correct readings. This code is a generic trouble code, meaning it applies to all vehicles equipped with OBD-II, especially those made from 1996 up to the present.
The P0153 trouble code is an indication that the oxygen sensor is not properly regulating the fuel and oxygen levels. ... When the oxygen sensor switches at a speed that is slower than normal, it causes a slow response between the oxygen sensor and the power control module (PCM)
- Usually a replacement of the oxygen sensor will fix the P0133 code.
- At times the sensor itself will not be causing the code P0133, so a technician must check for other faults such as vacuum leaks, a dirty mass air flow sensor, or leaks in the exhaust system.
To check the fuel sending unit you would have to find the wire which connects to the gauge and ground it to see if the gauge moves or not. You would need a wiring diagram of the fuel gauge circuit and find the wire or wires which go to the sending unit. If you wanted you could remove the fuel pump and sending unit and connect the wires and then turn key on and raise the float to see if the gauge reacts. Also be aware that raising the float does not instantly make the gauge move. But it will move slowly though if its working.
The other issues usually require replacement of the O2 sensors. PCM is noticing very slow response.
The last one will require some detective work. Find possible vacuum leaks, clean or replace MAF sensor and check for any leaks in exhaust system....air leaks cause dilution which O2 sensor will detect and report that to PCM.
