Fuel pump going bad?

Topic starter

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 2wd and 80% of the time I need to turn the key twice for it to start. Never need to turn it more than twice. Also when I'm going through a drive-through with my foot on the brake in drive it'll randomly idle high for a couple seconds then stop, as if I stopped on the gas to rev it up.

@michael92
higher rpm can mess you up. your computer is faster than most of other parts, it can easily be your pedal, maybe its old and is not going inside all the way, does it feel loose? your timing spark might need adjustment, it can be very easy fix. dont spend any money without first asking here. welcome to the forum

Many things could actually do that but a fuel pump can be pressure tested either get a pressure test get yourself or pay a mechanic the pressure test at to see if it is going out they do often go out in those models

@scottykilmer
thanks scotty i will try that on my car

@scottykilmer
Thank you scotty. I already have an appointment set to check my fuel pump. Just to make sure, would the fuel pump cause the issue with it not starting on the first crank? I read it could be an issue with the check valve on the fuel pump but not completely sure. It has 249,110 miles and still on the original fuel pump. It's been a good truck to me.

@michael92 Yes a bad or faulty fuel pump could cause that. Not enough fuel pressure.
