Fusion Shifting Rough in Hot Weather

Hey Scotty,

I have a 2016 Ford Fusion with a 2.0L 4-cyl engine with a Turbo and it just hit 60k miles. My transmission jerks and shifts hard when it’s humid outside or has been sitting in the sun, and shifts smoother as the car cools down. Any ideas of what it could be?

How is the ATF level? When did you change the fluid?

replace your transmission fluid,

that’s a 6F transmission made by GM. A very dependable transmission IF YOU CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 45K MILES - if you don’t this reasonably well built transmission starts being a nightmare.

If the roughy shift is between 2 - 3 it’s probably still savable. Go to a transmission shop to change the oil, filter, and reflash your TCM.

I haven’t changed it yet, and what would you recommend as the best way to check the level?

Fluid should be changed at that mileage. Drain and fill, don't flush. If there is no dipstick the level has to be checked at the fill hole on the transmission (meaning from under the car).
