Hi guys,

should I be interested in buying a 2008  3.5 L Pontiac G6? My wife had one before like five years Didn’t have any issues with it. She still would of had it if no one would of ran the traffic light .

why do you want a 13 year old car?

Because the money of the car. newer cars are having problems and I just don’t have 10 or $20,000 to buy a car. My limit is 3,000 or less. And plus I’m not a fan of Car notes I love to pay cash for my Property

is this for a daily driver?

Yes

yeah not wise. It's going to be breaking down and costly to maintain, and then something major like the transmission will pack it in and you'll have to throw it away in a couple of years. You'll be better off in the long run financially if you come up with more money and get something newer.

Ok thanks

I have a 2008 Pontiac G6, 2.4, Automatic, bought it with 78k miles on it, for $2,000. It's been one of the worst cars I've ever owned.

We'll go down the list of problems. The rear door lock actuators don't work. The trunk button doesn't work. The turn signals don't automatically cancel anymore. The entire car smells because the A/C didn't drain properly, and flooded the back passenger floor (I think I may have fixed this, too early in the year to tell). At 82K, I had to have the timing chain replaced, due to a design flaw that GM never fixed. That was over $700.) Not long after, I was nearly left stranded because the transmission speed sensor failed and was giving an erratic reading. I limped it home, and had to immediately fix that. The power steering would cut out randomly, without warning due to a problem with the electronic power steering motor/torque sensors. This was fixed under recall. Around this time, I had to replace the steering intermediate shaft due to it being rusted and binding up. I noticed then, that there were some very bad alignment problems. I had to replace tie rod ends (wear item) and sway bar links (also a wear item). I took it in for an alignment, and they stated that they couldn't do it because the ball joints/control arms were bad. The ball joints are pressed into the aluminum control arms, so it all has to be replaced. I had it aligned, but to this day I still have a loose front end, and a loud pop coming from some of the front end parts. From what I'm finding on google, I'm not the only person that's experiencing this. The transmission is also a total piece of crap. There's no dip stick, and you have to raise the car, drop the pan to change the fluid, and use a hole on the side of the transmission to check the level. If you take the bolt out and fluid begins to seep out, then you know it's full. It's a "non-serviceable" transmission. I've never changed the fluid, but I lost a little when I replaced the speed sensor and had to top it off. The car jerks when I shift from park to reverse during the colder months, so I'm sure that'll go out at some point.

Now, you mentioned that you were looking at the V6 model. I assume you're referring to the 3.5L engine. When I was looking at these cars, it seemed that most of them had problems with the rear main seal. I drove one that had 200K miles on it and it leaked oil like a siv. You'll have to pull the engine or transmission to replace that, so it's something to keep in mind. If you decide to buy one anyway, check the surrounding area for signs of an oil leak. Best of luck in searching for a car, hopefully this helps with your decision.

If you can get this car for less than $3k and it checks out via mechanical inspection, go for it.....it’s a good deal.....

My goal is 1000

@hallkids for a $1000 bucks, if the car drives down the road & shifts smoothly, you can go ahead & buy it. Just realise that it’ll fall apart if you start putting serious miles on it. But for a knock around car, yeah why not, after its inspected by a mechanic.

I’d try to low ball him now that you know it’s a good deal.....
