Hey Scotty,
I have a 2016 Toyota RAV4 LE AWD with 106,000 miles and my digital miles to empty gauge is showing about 75 miles less than my usual full tank when I fill up. Going from about 375 to only 300 miles to empty on a full tank. I reset the trip meter when I filled up and it’s showing a 15 mile difference in distance traveled. Any suggestions on what problem could be? I’m pretty lost here on the next steps. Thank you for everything you do to help guys like me!
My 2013 prius had that gauge, but it just seemed like a best guess. It would judge my mpg, then guess on the next fill up how far I would get. Keep in mind that it varies a good bit if you just did a bunch of road miles one tank, then did city/mountains.
My suggestion is don't put too much stock in that, it might have seen lower mpg on your last tank, and now it thinks you will get less this time.

probably keeping a reserve

No steps required. They're not designed to be accurate to-the-mile.
