Hi Scotty, I changed the rear dif on my 2006 Dakota. I have a limited slip.. With Mobil 1 full synthetic 70w - 140 It still had the chatter. I did not add the friction modifier. It was said it was not needed. After reading others had used Mobil 1 with W - the same results. I bought Valvoline full synthetic 70W - 140. It is said to also have the modifier. Can you add too much friction modifier.? So should I add it or not?
Thank You For Your Time
Ken

yes it's possible to add too much.
start with gear oil that has no modifier whatsoever. Then gradually add it until chatter goes away.
But realize that some crude LS diffs are just chatty. They're just not the best for on-road use.
You didn't mention what it is.
