My friend spilled a 12oz cup of hot coffee on his gear shifter while driving. Is his car ruined?

The mechanical bits - shifter, linkage, trans are probably pretty coffee-proof, but many cars have electric switches for various shift modes, overdrive on/off, etc. right net to the shifter/on the shifter, and maybe some electronics nearby.. Electrical switches don't like any kind of fluid. Has he seen any problems so far?

I don’t know about the rest of the car, but hope he likes coffee flavoured air freshener.
