Transmission fluid question

I have a 2005 Ford Escape with 195k miles on it. It runs good and transmission still shifts good. My question is, the transmission fluid has never been drained and fill. Is it safe for me to drain and fill the transmission fluid? (NOT FLUSH) just a drain and fill. I don't want people to get confused because I know flushing is definitely not a good idea. Is it safe to drain?

Really depends on what the fluid looks like. If it has some transparency and color to it, doesn’t smell bad. I don’t think a drain an fill would hurt anything. However, if it’s brown or black or smells bad keep it in and when it does start going out put some Lucas trans slip in and get a few more miles out of it before it gives out.

Leave it alone. Too many miles.

Drain and refill ASAP.
