Hi all!
My Dad passed and left me 3 BMWs and a Mercedes that he'd bought at auction. He was tinkering with them and I don't really know what issues they may have. I'm ashamed to add that I have been sitting on them for nearly 5 years for one reason or another. And to boot, he also left behind a BMW engine so I'm guessing he meant to switch out one of the cars' engines but I don't know which.
(I tried to start one of them up with a new battery but after I hooked it up, it smoked a bit and I realized that the battery cables were switched! I swear, black was positive and red was negative! I can send you a picture. I think I might've messed up the alternator or fuses but I don't know. I posted on a mechanic group on Facecrook and got laughed at so I got a bit discouraged, lol.)
I have more time now to carry on the tinker tradition, with a bit of understanding and even less experience, but I want to learn and get them in working order, then sell or lease them out. Without having any specifics, is there any likelihood that I can make a profit from them?
Being that they've been sadly neglected for so long, would it be worth the effort to revive them? If so, could you please advise me on how to begin? Should I replace all the fluids right away before trying to crank them? Should I remove all the gas that's been sitting or just dilute it with fresh gas? Should I get a pro (mobile mechanic) to check them out first? What would you do?
I hope to have some more specific questions in the future!
Thanks again!
And Thanks Scotty, I love your channel! Thanks for the real talk 💯
Look up their market value, ask a mechanic what they need and the cost, and then decide if it's worth investing time/money into.
Sound advice here.
If and when you decide you've "had enough" of tinkering with Germany's finest you can always put them up for sale on barnfinds.com.
{pear}
Thank you!
