Genuine Honda Coolant Equivalent

Hello Scotty,

I have a 2015 Honda Civic that is on the minimum mark on the coolant reservoir. I will be taking a long road trip tomorrow and was wondering if I can mix the Honda coolant with another one. At the local AutoZone where I live, I found Peak OET coolant for Asian vehicles. This coolant says it is equivalent to Honda coolant and also has a blue color. Will it harm my vehicle if I mix these coolants together?

P.S. If I do mix these coolants together, I plan on draining the cooling system in probably like 2 weeks when I return with only Genuine Honda coolant so that it does not cause future damage

If your cooling system is filled with Honda OAT ethylen glycol now, it should be perfectly fine to fill it up with the Peak OAT Asian style ethylen glycol coolant. You may also just fill it up with destilled water, if you only fill from low to full level in the reservoir.

Either way look for any leaks, that could cause you a bigger problem than mixing coolant brands.

Thanks for the answer! Yes I will check around the cooling system to see if there are any leaks to be safe.

Change your radiator cap as a precaution as well.

As they age, the seals can weaken or crack and cause overflow problems.

You will be fine.

Thanks for the response!

The Peak one you are looking at looks to be fine. It’s the blue one for Asian vehicles.

Another brand to look into would be Zerex Asian Vehicle blue. I have a gut feeling that Zerex is the OEM supplier for Honda genuine, because the bottles look so similar.  But I can’t otherwise prove it.
