[Solved] Honda Civic Si 1st Gear Lockout

I have a 2017 Honda Civic Si 1.5T 6MT with around 32K miles on it. A few weeks back I was driving around pretty "spirited". I came to a stop at a stop sign and when I went to put the shifter in 1st gear to take off, I couldn't at all, like I was locked out. I ended up having to take off in 2nd and was only a block from home, so I went there. I sat in my driveway forever trying to get in 1st gear. I tried every combo you could think of-shift from 2nd to 1st,3rd to 1st, reverse to 1st (all while the car was running) etc. Never could get into 1st gear. Shut the car off and did all the same. Still no luck. Took the underpinning off to look at the manual trans and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Checked in the engine bay at the shifter cables as well. Tried to shift the weighted cables into first myself-still no luck. Called the dealership up the next day and limped on in. Sat there for a few hours while the mechanic checked it all out. Finally was given my keys back and told the mech. got the shifter back in 1st and it was working now. Asked the "vehicle specialist" what was the problem and how the mech. got it in 1st. He said, "He just kept working it and finally got it." Tells me nothing, I did the same with no luck. Then he told me the mech. thinks my trans is going out. I was pretty much in shock about that. Of course, they couldn't turn it into Honda just yet since we needed to build a case up with me returning several times with the same problem. I never was able to speak to the mech., of course. But was wondering if any one else has ever had this problem, heard about this problem, or possibly has an idea what is going on with it. I was always told the 6mt in these Hondas was pretty much bulletproof. I've also looked around and haven't found anyone else with the same problem-only 1st gear lockout. Usually, there's some combo of gear lockouts but not just one gear. Any input or help is appreciated.

The fact that you can not put into the gear while the engine was off is not a good sign. Find a transmission pro to check it out. btw, how long have you had the car? Do you know if it was abused?

I'm at the 2-year mark owning it. It was a Pre-certified Used with only 8,000 miles on it. The guy traded it back into the same dealership for a newer model. I really have no idea if it was abused or even "broken" in properly by the 1st owner. I'm seriously thinking about trading it in myself. Only problem is I've bought soi many add-ons and extras for it I'd have to get rid of all of the stuff or get another 10th gen that the stuff will fit/work on.

Seems like something broke internally since it won't go into gear when you turned off the car. Needs to be looked at by a transmission pro that knows those Honda 6 spds.

Yeah it wouldn't even go into gear when it was running. I was really surprised the mechanic was able to get it to go back into 1st. I've been driving it and every now and then it keeps me from going into 1st for a bit. Luckily, so far, I've been able to get back into it. I'm really thinking it may be the synchros but wanted some input from others. Especially since I got no real answers from the dealership except that the mechanic told the vehicle spec. that he believed I would need a new trans. It's just a matter of building my case and hoping Honda approves it. It's a good thing I purchased the 100K mile powertrain warranty. Thanks for the input.

btw, in the meantime, do not use the 1st gear to avoid more damages.

Thanks. I'm gonna try to get it fixed under warranty I guess. Just have to build my case and hope Honda plays nice.
