Girlfriend's parents only want to buy American SUVs

Hey Scotty! My girlfriend's parents are looking to buy a new car as their 2016 Ford Explorer was recently totaled in a wreck. They'd like to get a big SUV. I keep trying to convince them to get a Toyota Sequoia or 4Runner but I am out of luck since they only buy "American made cars." What would you suggest between a GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe, and a Ford Excursion?

Clarification: are they open to a lease?

It’s hard to reason when you’re dealing with this..

The Yukon and Tahoe are one in the same. I can't recommend a Ford product with their current crappy engine/transmission offerings. GM isn't much better, but if you get the Tahoe and delete the AFM function, you might be ok for 100k miles or so.

Mod_man since you're a famed member and prob know more than I do can you enlighten me on the crappy engine/transmissions?

@Mo.man3833 Of course my friend. The Ford EcoBoost motors are both GDI (gasoline direct injected) and turbocharged. This means more pressure in the engine, thus faster wear on the parts and a shorter lifespan. This is particularly true on heavy vehicles such as an Expedition where you have a small motor pulling a lot of weight around all the time. The V8 5.0L engines have rod knock problems, oil lubrication problems, and more. The 10-speed automatic transmissions were made as a joint venture with GM. To tell you how good they are, GM and Ford have declared they will NEVER AGAIN collaborate on vehicle parts development. A lot of issues with those, and Ford's manual transmissions, the MT-82, is a Chinese built piece of junk that got them into a class action lawsuit. All of these points can be supported with a quick Google search if you'd like additional reading material. It is unfortunate as I've been a Ford guy all my life, but after 3 terrible vehicles since 2018 I finally bought a Honda and have washed my hands of the modern American vehicles. Just problems across the board and nothing being done to better the situation. It is sad.

What is an "American" vehicle? For example, Ford builds/assembles many of its vehicles in Mexico (where they have four large plants). So does GM.

It might be instructive to look at the manufacturing date and info plate inside the front driver's seat of ANY vehicle they might be interested in, in a showroom, to that confirm American labor assembled it.

___

For example, the Sequoia is assembled in Princeton, Indiana, although the 4Runner is Japanese. So, why should be Sequoia be disqualified?

The Excursion will come out of the U.S., but it's the first year model of a revived name. There will be problems.

The Tahoe  and Yukon are U.S. assembled, that's true.

In the end, some people will do what they want to do, regardless of their best interests. It's their money. I'd let it go.

GMC and Chevys are both made by GM and we know how those are but honestly I think a Ford Excursion is a good buy because they're kinda like a f150 truck since they even use the same frame. The american made joke is hilarious though lol when I told my little brother (who is 16) that he should always get Japanese made cars because they make good cars he called me racist 🙂 ... and maybe I am

Find a toyota that was made in Indiana or Kentucky and then you're like hey it's american made what's the matter.

._.

Yeah there are not many options out there avoid gm at all costs, and ford is better with bigger cars than smaller cars (not great but better), their strenght is their pickup lineup I'd say.
