If you delete the AFM system, they are pretty reliable engines. With AFM, there are issues with lubrication.

What if you disable AFM electronically through your OBD 2 port?

I have never bothered trying the OBD-II options. The only real way to delete it is to replace all 16 lifters and install a non-afm camshaft. $2500 to $3500 job.
