I was wondering about y'all's opinion on these engines? (Specifically in the GMC Savanna)
Relatives will soon be needing a new commercial van that meets the union-built regulations.
The options are either the Ford Transits, or the Express/Savanna 3500 platform. We would like the truck to have plenty of punch loaded to the brim with pipefitting junk. with heavy payload and towing capacity for his boat on the weekends.
The engine options are: 6.0L Vortec V8 W/6 speed HD auto, 4.3L V6 W/8 speed auto, or the 2.8L Duramax 4 banger w/8 speed.
I was thinking Vortec, just because it's a V8. but if anyone has any experience with the other engines, please, let me know! We don't need outrageous power here... A turboed 4 cylinder diesel in a 3/4 ton truck seems like a recipe for disaster, and it would pain me as a Powerstroke boy to get a Duramax. However, we want whichever one will get me the most life. Us rural boys put major miles on our vehicles, and try to get at least 250K miles out of each vehicle.
I know people here aren't GM fans, but they are really the only option here.
Thanks for any opinions!
Definitely not the V6! lol
That engine does not even belong in a full size van.
the 6.0L gas engine has more power than the diesel, and it's a solid engine.
Appreciate it.
Yeah, although to be fair my Triton 5.4 in the ol Econoline put out .... well never mind.
let me finish that for you ...
Ford E-Series (1997 - 2017) 255hp, 323lb-ft
Chevrolet Express L96: 342 hp, 373 lb.-ft.
RIP
At least she hasn't blown out any spark plugs...
yet 🙄
I'd go with the 6.0L V8 for the heavy duty work you are doing. Good motor.
Thanks for the tip.
No contest, the Vortec V8.
Appreciate the insight.
