GMC Acadia 2009 Ignition switch??

Hello!

I have a 2000 gmc acadia, it has 152,000 miles. Recently I experienced a problem in my key getting stuck in the ignition. Moving the steering wheel did not work. I tried to put the car in neutral but the gear would not move. There are times when the lights turn on on the dash and times they don't at all. I thought it was a battery problem. However on one day I tried to start the car no lights came, turn the key all the way no sound, no action whatsoever and the key was stuck. I have absolutely no knowledge of cars. 20 minutes later I went back to car and the dash lights were on and I was able to remove the key. The next day drove the car when I returned home I tried to lock the car with the key fob it would not lock at all. Later this evening tried to use the car no lights came on key was stuck. At this point I left the key in the ignition until the next day (evening) when I got back from work. I was able to start the car drove it for about an hour everything seemed ok. What could this problem be? Could it be the ignition switch? The key cylinder? Do I need a new key if I replace the ignition switch or the key cylinder? Should I replace both. I appreciate you taking the time to review my message and lock forward to your response. Thank you.

Michelle

I have a 2000 gmc acadia,

There is no such car. The first Acadia came out in 2006.

ok I'm guessing it's a 2009. A switch can't stop you from removing the key. So either the key, cylinder, or interlock is worn out. Do you have a spare key to try? Check your battery. See a locksmith, and honestly Acadias are horrendous cars. They are plagued with various problems. Scotty has vigorously warned people against them. I'd consider getting rid of it ASAP.
