- I’m in the market for a used car from a private seller. My budget is $8000. I’m interested in a Prius but I’d like to know if they’re too much of a risk given the head gasket issues seen in the gen 3 Prius’s and the age of original hybrid batteries?

Scotty and most participants here would advise against buying an old hybrid vehicle. (Since you are talking about spending no more than $8000 it's a virtual certainty to be an old one.)
