Scotty,

looking for lower mileage used car. Narrowed to a 2011 RX 350 with 70k miles and a 2009 grand marquis with 25k miles. Price difference aside and knowing both have clean car fax, would you recommend one over the other for longevity? I know you like them both on your channel

both from a dealer

I would get the Lexus.

Do you want a sedan or a crossover?  You have to figure that out.  Also, is the mileage on that Marquee real?  (It certainly can be, but need a good, independent mechanic like Scotty to confirm with a high level scan tool).  Assuming both check out fine (after undergoing full-system scan by mechanic and no glaring issues), I would choose the Marquee if you plan to keep for a long time and puts lots of mileage on it:  the Lexus can get expensive to repair (compared to the Marquee) when things do eventually wear out (past 200,000 miles).

Thanks for the replies. I don’t rely on carfax. But I do know the folks who have the dealership and they specialize in finding older low mileage cars and know many people, including us, that have used them.

on that note, we have a trusted mechanic but we live in a large city and want to narrow down before driving an hour across town to have it checked out. He has all the computers similar to what Scotty uses.

again, appreciate the time and insights. I know Scotty has videos positive on both. I prefer the Mercury, but still being in my forties my wife is really against it because she calls it an old man car. She’s right. But you like what you like. So it will probably be the Lexus. Lol

thanks again

I own a 07 Marquis. It is an an old man's car, but very reliable, safe, and comfortable.

Too bad you are going through a dealer.  You're about to get ripped off.  Car Fax is practically worthless as a selling point.  A 12 year old car with only 25K miles?  Seriously?  C'mon man!
