Hello! I have a 1995 Toyota Landcruiser with 105000km. It has a 1HZ diesel engine with straight six naturally aspirated diesel engine with indirect injection. It has a standard transmission.
When I clutch down on the pedal it is very noisy and squeaky so I am pretty sure it is the slave cylinder rod. Can I use silicone grease to grease the rod?
Another problem I have the chirping sound at idle with the clutch up that goes away when I put very slight pressure on the clutch pedal. Pretty sure it is the clutch fork and pivot ball contact point that needs greasing. What grease can I use for this application for it to last a long time? I would greatly appreciate any input on this. Thanks!
Well, silicone grease isn't very good for any kind of metal part. For that, you're better using white lithium grease which you would use on the other part too
Thanks for the reply Scotty!
You can use lithium grease as Scotty suggests if you can get access to the clutch fork pivot ball, but I would check all the clutch adjustments first and be prepared for a possible worn out throw out bearing making that noise.
Thanks for the reply, hmm... to my understanding if the throw out bearing is worn wouldn't it make the noise when I press the clutch down? It only happens with the clutch pedal up 😅
In that case it could be your pilot bearing.
That depends on your clutch adjustments as well. If it's slightly riding on the pressure plate, it'll make noise. It could also be a worn out pilot bearing. Given the age and mileage, I suspect a complete, new clutch kit is in your future; clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing.
Thanks! Should I replace the pivot ball and clutch fork too? And resurface the flywheel? And the gearbox also have trouble with 2nd and 3rd gear due to worn synchros, is it better to put a used box ( if I can find them) or rebuild transmission?
I've only had to replace a pivot ball once because it broke off. Never had to replace a fork. Unless the flywheel is really crudded up or has surface cracks, I just clean it up with some 120 grit sand paper and lacquer thinner. If the synchros are gone, I always get the trans rebuilt by a pro who at the least, replaces the seals and synchros. I'm kind of nutty about oil changes so I know the bearings are OK but yours need to be checked for excessive play. Don't forget to get a new shift lever cup bushing too if you go the rebuild route.
